Motorola launched two new smartwatches, Moto 360 2nd Gen and the Moto 360 Sport at the IFA 2015 event. The Moto 360 in launched in two different sizes for men and women. Apart from the size and battery all the other features of the two variants are similar. The Moto 360 Men variant comes in two sizes with 42mm case and 46mm case. The Women’s variant comes in 42mm case with a 16mm band.
The Men’s collection comes in three color options – black, silver and gold, the women’s collection comes in metallic brown, silver, and gold options. The Moto 360 2 comes with a resolution of 360 x 325 pixels with 263 ppi for the 42 mm version and the 46 mm variant comes with a screen resolution of 360 x 330 pixels and pixel density of 233 PPI.
The new Moto 360 comes with water and dust resistance feature. The Moto 360 2nd gen is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 1.2 GHz quad-core CPU (APQ 8026) with Adreno 305 with 450MHz GPU. It comes with 512MB RAM and 4GB internal storage space. It runs on Android Wear OS, the new Moto 360 is not compatible with all Android phones and also with iPhone.
The 42mm variant of the Moto 360 2nd gen is powered by a 300mAh battery which is said to last for close to 1.5 days if the Ambient light is off, and 1 day of battery life with mixed use of ambient light as said by Motorola. the 46 mm Men’s variant comes with 400 mAh battery which is said to go on for 2 days with the Ambient light Off.
With the Moto Maker design studio, customers can now customize their Moto 360 2nd gen with their choice of bezels, colors and materials. It comes with connectivity features like Bluetooth 4.0 Low energy and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g. The 2nd Gen Moto 360 comes with an optical heart rate monitor and sensors like Accelerometer, Ambient Light Sensor, Gyroscope, Vibration/Haptics engine.
The Moto 360 sport comes with a fixed in silicon band and has a technology called “AnyLight display” which is said to adjust to any level of natural light around the user to help the display be clear and readable, this feature will be useful for users who are into outdoor sports.
The Silicon band comes with special UV coating which will help in keeping away moisture and resists fading or staining. The Moto 360 Sport is said to last for full two days. It comes with features like heart rate sensor, built-in GPS which will help in tracking speed, distance, pace while the user is cycling or running and show it on the display.
The Moto 360 2nd Gen starts at $299.99 and the highest variant is priced at $429.99 depending on the variant. The pricing of the Moto 360 sport has not been confirmed yet. The Motorola smartwatches are available for pre-order online, they are available on Best Buy, Motorola and Google Play (only in US) online stores.
