How to Set Up a New Chromecast

Google’s Chromecast is one of the most popular Streaming media device that you can connect to your TV to make it a smart TV that can connect to the internet to stream a lot of content or something that can show images and videos from your phone on your TV, or even from your Windows or Mac computer. There are a total of 3 devices available. The original Chromecast device was a Stick, the only version currently available in India. Last year, Google launched 2 new devices, an updated Chromecast, and a Chromecast Audio, that you can just use to make your speakers wireless.

Anyway, in this tutorial, let me tell you how you can set up your newly purchased Chromecast device. In the article below, I list out the steps for the original Chromecast Stick, but the steps for other devices should be pretty much the same. Let’s get started with this tutorial then!

Setting Up a New Chromecast Device

The first step in setting up a new Chromecast device is to have the device itself and plug it into your TV and then connect the power for the device as well. If you have a USB port on the TV, connect the USB cable there, otherwise, you’ll have to connect it to the wall adapter that was supplied with the device.

Next, turn on your TV and switch to the input/source on the TV that corresponds to the HDMI port where you connected your Chromecast. You should now see a screen on the TV that says the new device is ready to set up and will ask you to visit the setup website for Chromecast.

You can now set up this device using either an Android device, an iOS device or from your computer. It will work from either of those ways and the steps for each of this will remain more or less the same. I am setting it up using an Android Device.

Head over to the Google Play Store and search for “Google Cast”, the official app from Google. Download and install the app from the Play Store and open it up. When you start the app, head over to the second tab on the top which is marked as “Devices”.

Choose Set a new Chromecast and follow the steps on your device. It will show you a list of available devices that need to be set up. Choose the device name that corresponds to the name shown on your TV and tap on “Set Up”. The app will then connect you to the WiFi from that Chromecast and you will lose internet connectivity for a short while.

When the app is connected to the Chromecast successfully, it will ask you to check for the Code on the TV and the app, just to check if it’s the right device you’re connecting to. If you see the same code, tap on I see the Code. The next steps are really simple. Just give the device any name you like, and then on the next page, connect the device to the WiFi network that you want it always connected to.

When it’s done, the app will let you know that your device is ready to cast media. At this stage, you can start casting content to your TV or streaming it directly on your TV from the internet.

Please note that if you are configuring the latest Chromecast devices, there might be a few additional taps in the setup process, but all of those are self-explanatory.

Well, that’s it. You’ve successfully configured your Chromecast device and it should now be able to do all you ever heard that such a device can do. If you want me to cover any specific things about it, do let me know in the comments section below! I’ll try my best to cover as many things as I can.
