Facebook is such an old website now, most of us have been a part of it for several years and have shared a lot of our happy memories on this website. It’s like a virtual diary of most of the important things that happen in our lives, and now the “On this day” feature keeps prompting you to look back at the memories you’ve made in the past few years on the same date.
I was recently approached by a friend of mine who had broken up with her boyfriend a few months ago; she’d been struggling to forget him and had almost succeeded when Facebook reminded her of him with all the sweet memories they’d shared a year ago. Normally they would have been a pleasant retreat but to her, it meant reliving all the memories she’d been trying to forget. I helped her out and we blocked all the notifications from the intended person.
Since many people face this on a daily basis, we decided to cover this issue in this article.
As awesome as it is, for some it could mean reliving painful memories that they’re somehow trying to forget. There have been times when people were reminded about the sad demise of their loved ones by Facebook, more often than not Facebook reminds people of their Ex by pulling up lovely pics from a year or two ago.
“On this day” displays posts, images, and statuses that you share on the same day in the past, and unless you share it with the world, you are the only person to see it. There is no way to completely disable the On this Day feature, but you can select a few dates or people that you should not be reminded about.
How to stop “On this day” notifications from Facebook
Although there is no way to totally disable the “On this Day” notification from Facebook you can provide it with a few filters which would prevent those notifications on particular dates or with particular people.
To change your “On this Day” preferences, on the Facebook home page, to the left side find the item name “On this Day” and click it to open the options. In the next page, there will be a Preferences option beside the notifications button, click it and a window should pop up with a few options. Here you will have an “Edit” button beside the Dates option, click it and proceed. You should now select the dates by clicking the “Select Dates” option. Once you set a start and end date then Facebook won’t show you the On this Dat notifications for the specified period.
Your memories are yours, so you should control which ones you see in On This Day. Memories include things like your posts and others’ posts you’re tagged in, major life events and when you became friends with someone on Facebook. Use these filters to help make sure we show you memories from On This Day in a way that’s meaningful for you.
You can also go back to the previous page where it showed you the option to select either people or dates and click the “Edit” option next to People. Here you have an option to add all the people with whom you don’t want to have any memories. Once you add all the people to the list hit the Save button and Facebook will remember not to notify you with the On this Day notifications concerning the above-selected people.
