The Google Chromecast is a really powerful device. It lets you stream media to your TV wirelessly, over a WiFi network. Last week, I did an article on how to set up your new Chromecast and another one which listed out the Best Chromecast Apps for Android. But then it came to my mind, why not share with you people one way using which you can cast anything from your computer (Windows or Mac) to your Chromecast!
Today, let’s learn how you can cast anything from your computer to your TV, using the Chrome Web Browser. Well, I think you saw that coming with the Chromecast. You need to have the Chrome Browser installed on your computer for this to work. If you don’t have it, go ahead and install it first and then follow the tutorial below.
Chromecast From Windows 10 or Mac to TV
First and foremost, you’ll need the Chrome Web Browser and if you don’t have it installed, install it first, like I had told you earlier. Now for casting from your computer, you can either cast the entire screen, which is still in testing and may cause glitches here and there, or you can cast a single tab in your Chrome Browser to your TV. Let’s begin with the steps.
- Head over to the Chrome Web Store to download the Google Cast Plugin for your Browser, or simply click here to directly go to that page.
- Click on Add to Chrome and then click Add Extension on the dialog box that comes up.
- When the plugin in installed, you can find it on the top right corner on your Chrome, just as shown here.
- Then, make sure that your Chromecast is turned on, and your Computer and the Chromecast are on the same WiFi Network.
- Click on that and choose options. There choose Manage your Cast Devices.
- Wait for it to search for your device and when it shows your device, you’ll be sure that it detects your device.
- To cast a tab, simply open that tab and click the Chromecast icon and choose your device to cast to.
- Now, if you want to play a video or play a song on your Chromecast, simply drag that file into a new tab in Chrome and cast that tab to your TV using the procedure described above.
- If you want to cast your entire screen or a part of your Window, click the Chromecast icon, and click on the little drop-down arrow next to “Cast this tab to” and choose Cast this screen or Window option.
- Then, choose which part of the screen you want to cast and click on Share. It will start casting your laptop screen there on the TV.
I hope you were able to follow the steps mentioned in the tutorial above, and successfully cast your computer to your TV, wirelessly. If you liked the post, please share it with your friends and family members who own a Chromecast so that they can learn such a thing as well. Also, if you face any problem during the process, feel free to comment below, and I’ll be happy to solve it for you!
