The Reliance Jio 4G launch is today and you will be able to get the Jio SIM card at the Reliance Digital or other stores, but the scene isn’t just like the other SIM cards because it is the Welcome Offer under which you would be getting the card and there are quite a few things that you need to know about it before visiting the store.
How to get the Jio 4G SIM card
According to the Jio website, you still need to show the offer code generated in the MyJio app and that will help you get the Jio 4G SIM card. If you don’t know what it is all about, download My Jio App from the Google Play Store. Open that and if you have an eligible phone to get the card, you’ll see an option to avail offer and get Jio SIM. Tap on that and you’ll be asked to follow a few steps before you are shown a code. This code has to be shown at the store.
There are many users who have already been facing issues while generating the code, ending up with nothing. For them, here’s how to generate code on MyJio app.
Phones compatible with Jio 4G
The network is a True 4G one and while having 4G with band support is enough to get the data benefit, if you have to make calls, the phone should also have VoLTE feature, i.e. Voice over LTE. This enables for direct voice calls to any network. If you don’t have that, you still can use the SIM and make voice calls by downloading an app called JioJoin. It helps connect to the data network and get the call through.
Check out the Jio 4G compatible phones list.
eKYC documentation and SIM activation
Unlike how it has been in the past couple of months, you don’t have to wait for days to see you Jio SIM card getting activated. It is a quick activation process thanks to the eKYC where you just have to show your Aadhaar card and that will be instantly checked and your Jio SIM will be activated in a few minutes. You will be needed to submit the Passport-size photograph along with the aadhaar card.
Jio 4G Welcome Offer
Starting today till December 31st, you are a part of the Jio Welcome Offer. In this offer you will be able to use the SIM without subscribing to any plan that Jio network has to offer, on both Prepaid and Postpaid plans. It is all going to be free browsing, calling and everything else for the next four months and you will have to subscribe to one of the plans only from January 1st.
Limits in the Welcome Offer
The Welcome Offer, though, is said to offer everything unlimited, there are speed limits in this and during this offer period, you will be able to download only 4GB data at high 4G speed per day, and once that is used up, you will be getting data at 128 kbps speed.
Jio 4G Plans and Tariff
Although you cannot subscribe to any of these plans right now and can do that from January 1st, Reliance Industries Limited chairman Mukesh Ambani had mentioned about the plans and you can check out all the details of Prepaid and Postpaid plans.
Jio 4G Prepaid Plans
Jio 4G Postpaid Plans
These all plans have one thing in common – free voice calls. The major part of the cost in these plans is for the data usage and you can try out the Jio services while it is on Welcome Offer before deciding to pay for it when it gets officially launched for public.
JioFi device gets cheaper
The JioFi 2 hotspot device that was earlier available for the price of Rs. 2899 is now priced at Rs. 2000 and you can get that from today with the Welcome Offer activated on it. We’re told that with JioFi you won’t see the data cap of 4GB for 4G speed, so you will have unlimited data access on high speed.
If you have an issue of making calls through JioFi, you just need to use an app on a smartphone connected to JioFi. Check how to make calls using JioJoin app.
Porting to Jio from other networks
It is already possible for you to switch networks, though we feel that you should test out the network before making a decision. If you already did it well during the Preview Offer, check out the following guide on how to port to Jio network.

I thought this welcome offer is for everyone!
Today I went to Reliance store to buy JIOFI. They told me that SIM card given with JIOFI is data only card. This card cannot be used in 4g Volte phones. Is that correct? My understanding is SIM card once activated should work in both JIOFI as well as any 4g Volte phone. Can anyone help ?
