The Reliance Jio 4G SIM cards are, for sure, in the hands of many now after the recent error where people were able to get the SIM for free, with the 90-day trial Preview offer where unlimited data and calling is given without any cost.
Of course, you won’t be able to get things right away, and will have to work on a couple of things to get the unlimited access activated, but even after that, many people are reporting that they are not able to access the Internet on the 4G SIM. The reason for that could be the missing Internet settings, or what they call it as the APN settings for data connectivity.
Now, what’s APN? For those who don’t know at all, APN is the access point name that is given by the network provider for the specific Internet type, i.e. 2G, 3G, or 4G. It could be the common one for all the network generations or different ones, and that is dependent on the provider. Only if the APN settings are done right, you will be able to access the Internet on your smartphone.
Here are the APN settings for Jio 4G network.
Access Point Name (APN): jionet
This is the only important term and setting in the entire list of settings. If this is properly set, you can access the Internet. Here’s how you can set the APN on your Android smartphone.
Under the Settings, search for the Network settings and here, it will be different for every brand but in the end, you need to end up finding the Mobile Networks or Cellular Networks, and here, look for the “Access Point Names” option.
If APN is the reason for the unavailability of the Internet on your smartphone having the Jio 4G SIM, then you won’t find any active APNs set in that particular setting.
Tap on the + option / Add APN option on the top to add a new APN. You’ll be given a whole bit list of options to write down but you don’t have to do it. Only set a name for the APN, and it can be something that you can remember and not get confused about later. To make it easy, you can name it “Internet” and then, check for the option named APN. That is where you need to write “jionet” and then save the APN. Select it in the list of APNs, and then restart your phone.
Make sure that while you do this, the Jio 4G SIM is in the first SIM slot. You should be able to access the Internet by now using your Jio SIM. If it didn’t help and you still are not able to get the Internet to work, it is some other issue, for which you will have to contact the Jio customer support who can assist you better with this.
If you are not able to get the network at all, at times, you should just be patient because it is too early for Reliance and these are the test phases where outages are quite expected.
