Microsoft has done a flurry of excellent announcements at the event today held in New York. One of those was of the new Microsoft Surface tablet, the Surface Pro 4. Having a 12.3-inch display with 267 PPI pixel density along with PixelSense technology, the display has 0.4 mm gorilla glass and it is a 1.1m backlight unit.
This is the thinnest Gorilla Glass 4 layer used with the 0.4mm thickness, and it is a new G5 chipset and a new Surface Pen along with an eraser on it. The pen comes with 1024 points of pressure, and it has a year-long battery life. Unlike being an optional accessory, the Pen ships along with the Surface Pro 4.
The Surface Pro 4 is 30% faster than the Pro 3, and claimed to be 50% faster than the Macbook Air. Variants with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage are going to be available. The thickness of 8.4mm could be reduced but Microsoft couldn’t, as they wanted to have the USB 3.0 ports.
A docking station with four USB 3.0 ports, two 4K DisplayPort, Ethernet is also going to be available along with the Pro 4.
A new TypeCover with a thinner, lighter and sturdier body is also announced, and it comes with an integrated backlit keyboard, and there is a precision glass trackpad included as well. The TypeCover will be available in five colors. The trackpad on the new TypeCover is made 40% bigger than the previous one. The bigger news – there is a fingerprint reader included.
The Surface Pro 4 from Microsoft is priced from $899, and the pre-orders begin from October 7th, while the tablet will be available from October 26th.
