OnePlus has finally released the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS update to their last year’s flagship device, the OnePlus 2, which has just received the Oxygen OS 3.0 update though this is not the OTA update and you will have to manually flash it if you want to try it out. There are many new updates and changes featuring in the latest update which can be seen in the OnePlus 2 Oxygen OS 3.0 update based on Android Marshmallow 6.0.
If you do not want to wait for the OTA update and ready to risk it and try to update your device to the latest Oxygen OS 3.0., follow the below steps and upgrade to the latest OS.
Note: The process you are about to follow is Flashing your OPT device and this might lead to loss of data on your device and it is required to Backup all your data before going ahead with the process.
To Flash your device successfully to the latest Oxygen 3.0 OS the flashing requires OxygenOS 2.2.0 or higher. Factory reset is needed if you are using any other recovery or coming from any other ROM. Also remember this note from OnePlus: We only support dirty flashing of this build using Oxygen recovery. Dirty flashing requires OxygenOS 2.2.0 or higher. Factory reset is needed if you are using any other recovery or coming from any other ROM. We do not guarantee these cases to work properly.

Few questions you might have in mind before updating
Do I need to root the OnePlus 2 to update manually?
No, there is no need to root your phone. You can just update it as is, by entering into recovery mode.
Does manually flashing the ROM stop OTA updates from being sent to my device?
No, the OTA updates and everything works as usual and you don’t need to worry about the future OTA updates.
I am not on Oxygen OS right now, will I have to do anything different here?
Yes, you will have to wipe the data and perform a factory data reset before trying to flash the OxygenOS 3.0 update manually.
Steps to Flash OnePlus 2 with OxygenOS 3.0 Beta:
From your laptop of PC download the software build for your device – link (ZIP file)
Plug in your OnePlus 2 to your computer and copy or transfer the downloaded .zip file to your phone’s storage. For Mac users, you can install Android File Transfer for going ahead with the transfer.
Next step is to reboot your phone into recovery mode (to do that, turn your phone off and then hold the power + volume down button simultaneously) after the transfer of the .zip file to your device is completed.
If you are new to Reboot follow these steps – shut down your device and turn it back on while holding the power and volume down buttons simultaneously.
Now after the display turns on, you have to choose “Install from local” option, and find your .zip file and click on “Install” to confirm.
You are done. It will update the device to the latest OS, i.e. OxygenOS 3.0.
