Sony Xperia Z3 get the Android N Developer Preview making it the first Non-Nexus device to get the developer preview. The devices which have received the Android N Developers preview are Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, and Pixel C in early March. What is a bit confusing is the Flagship Z3 from 2014 has got the update but not the Z5 which is last years flagship by Sony.
The update is not being rolled out as an OTA update but the Xperia Z3 user will have to install Sony’s ‘Xperia Companion’ app on their Windows or Mac computer and then download the Developer Preview. The update has to be manually flashed on the device following which future updates will arrive over the air directly from Sony.
With new Developers preview the users will get features like Call Blocking in Android N, Night Mode, Data Saver feature, Redesigned Settings Menu UI, Improved Doze feature etc. Other features like multi-window, bundled notifications etc will also be included which were released with the latest firmware update in mid-March for the devices running on Android N developers preview.
With the Sony Xperia Z3 being the first non-Nexus device to receive the Android N developers preview we can believe that it has opened up a gateway for other devices to start receiving the update.
