At its Developer Conference in San Francisco, Samsung has announced that the company will roll out a major update to the Tizen OS, with the Tizen 3.0 update to come with a 64-bit operating system. While the public release will be done in September 2016, the beta release will be in July.
The current best version is v2.4 and it is available on a limited number of products. While the Tizen 3.0 update will roll out to these devices in September, Samsung says that newer devices with the new updated version of Tizen will be available too after the release.
The 3.0 version brings support for Linux LTS Kernel and the Linux-based operating system will not only be seen on smartphones as it used to do usually but on smart devices as well, making Tizen an IoT ecosystem. The Tizen 3.0 is also said to be working with 64-bit ARM and x86 processors, and they still would boast 30% faster processing speeds. To add to the list of features, there will also be a support for playing 4K resolution videos, Bluetooth 4.2 and Wi-Fi 802.11 ac.
The growth of Internet of Things devices has given Samsung some hopes of entering that department with their proprietary OS, and Tizen 3.0 is ready for IoT now. The features aren’t limited to the IoT platform, though, because it will have Antivirus, protection of privacy, support for multi-users, and improved voice control capabilities.
Tizen is NOT Samsung’s property. I don’t get how tech “writers” think that it is, but it isn’t. From the Tizen’s information site it says
“The Tizen project resides within the Linux Foundation and is governed by a Technical Steering Group. The Technical Steering Group is the primary decision-making body for the open source project, with a focus on platform development and delivery, along with the formation of working groups to support device verticals.”
