Asus has been pretty active when it comes to updating their Zenfone variants to the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS with the most recent ones being the Zenfone Max and the Zenfone Laser (some variants). The latest to join the club are the Zenfone Zoom (ZX551KL) and the Zenfone Selfie (ZD551KL). It is great to see that the company is trying hard to reach the Q2 2016 deadline which was set by themselves but have slightly overshot the deadline.
We cannot be disappointed until the updates keep rolling in. As seen with the Zenfone 2 Laser and the Zenfone Max the update seems to be taking action on the Bloatware and many of the preloaded apps are now being removed, which is a welcome change. The Zenfone Zoom is getting the Firmware version 4.21.40.74 and the Zenfone Selfie gets the firmware version 21.40.0.1692.
There are many preloaded apps being shown the door in Zenfone Selfie which will clear a lot of space and help in making the device much faster. The apps being removed are ASUS Backup, Mirror, Remote Link, Party Link, PC Link, Photo Frame, What’s Next, ASUS MyFrame, ASUS MyWater, Omlet, Data Transfer, Snap View, Dr. Eye and Yahoo. Whereas in the Zenfone Zoom the apps being removed are – ASUS Backup, Google Play Books, Google Play Games, Google Play Newsstand, Google+, ZenFlash (Can be downloaded from Google play).
The latest Software update for the Zenfone Zoom and the Zenfone Selfie is released in Phases as said by Asus and if you have not yet received the update keep checking the Software update section in About. And in case you cannot wait for the OTA update to show up on your device you can download the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update file for the ASUS Zenfone Zoom (Link) and ASUS Zenfone Selfie (Link) from their official site and install it manually.
Glad to know Asus too rolling out updates on priority basis for their users.. And it’s a good step to remove bloatwares.. Thanks for the updates Chetan. ☺
