It was the most expected name and Google went with it, even if it meant it had to deal with licensing. “Android Oreo” it is the name for the latest Android version, i.e. Android 8.0.
Smarter, faster, more powerful and sweeter than ever. The world’s favorite cookie is your new favorite Android release.
Before this, it was Android KitKat that had the sweetness of a chocolate and Google had an agreement with Nestle to use the name for its Android version. This time, it is with Cadbury for the Android Oreo, and the name wins it against the ones like Android Oatmeal Cookie and Android Orelette.
As it happens every year, Android Oreo update will arrive on a few smartphones as soon as the release happens. It is the latest Pixel devices, the Google Pixel and Pixel XL and the Nexus 5X and 6P are the phones to get it first, and apart from that, it will be the Google Pixel C tablet and ASUS Nexus Player to get the update at the earliest.
Most of the smartphone brands too have started mentioning about it already and are announcing that their latest flagships will surely get the Android Oreo update but the dates aren’t confirmed. If you were a part of the Android Beta Program, you will soon be seeing the update available, and that is one of the advantages of being a part of that program. The date is not yet mentioned but very soon is what we know.
There are a plethora of new features that are going to arrive in this new version of Android and while we are going to have a guide explaining each of them, the quick new additions to mention here are as follows.
- Background limits to minimize background activity
- Autofill logins in favorite apps
- Picture-in-Picture mode

How do you like the new name? We were betting to see Oreo itself and are happy with it, though the fact that Google usually surprises the lot everytime, we were expecting it to be something else till the last minute.
