Google had announced earlier this morning about the release of Android 6.0.1 update for Nexus devices, and now the factory images have been posted. The update is said to bring emoji along with enabling band 12 LTE of T-mobile for Nexus 6P and 5X.
The Nexus devices which are capable of upgrading to this new update are the 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus Player, Nexus 9 (LTE and WiFi), Nexus 5, and Nexus 7 (2013) WiFi and LTE. The enabling of 12 LTE is a welcome update because of the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P were launched without support for band 12 LTE. The band 12 only runs voice calls over VoLTE, with T-mobile coverage to some areas having only 12 band it becomes difficult to place any calls, calls can be made only after VoLTE certification.
So the two most important features included in this update are the emoji’s along with activation of VoLTE. The updates are named MMB29K for Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus Player, Nexus 9 (LTE and WiFi), Nexus 5, and Nexus 7 (2013) WiFi and LTE and for Nexus 6P and Nexus Player the build is MMB29M.
The updates are not OTA but should be installed by flashing your device, make sure that you are comfortable with flashing your device and know the steps for doing it, before going forward. By flashing a new system image deletes all user data. Be careful to first backup any personal data such as photos etc.
