Just like the A1660 model of iPhone 7, the A1661 model of iPhone 7 Plus works with most of the CDMA and GSM carriers and it is the global model. In the U.S., you will find the phone available through Sprint and Verizon. The other markets where the A1661 model is available include Puerto Rico, Hong Kong and China. This model is made only for the Japanese market and the reason for that is, Apple wanted to have the FeliCa Type-F NFC contactless technology in the device, which would help them have the Apple Pay service in Japan.
