Apple iPhone 7’s availability is at question at several places, and in markets like India, it is in demand and retailers are selling select color models, not making all the options available at ease, while in the U.S., now the users can purchase a SIM-free iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus from the Apple Store.
You can buy the iPhone without any carrier tagged up and you can then activate the iPhone with any carrier later. These units will be fully carrier unlocked and you can use any SIM on it. These iPhones will carry support for even the CDMA networks for Sprint and Verizon.
The problem here too is that the numbers available are less and the Jet Black model of iPhone 7 Plus SIM-free option has a wait period of 6-8 weeks already. It is about 4 weeks for the Jet Black variant of iPhone 7.
If you are looking to purchase the SIM-free iPhone 7 or 7 Plus through the iPhone Upgrade Program, you won’t be able to get it directly and there will be a need to get tagged to one of the network providers in the U.S. That is disappointing, but that is what Apple is offering – a SIM-free option only if you are buying it without the iPhone Upgrade program.
One of the major advantages of the SIM free option of the new iPhone over the network-locked ones is the band support. These SIM-free models have the support for majority of the bands around the world, so you can carry and be worry-free about the connectivity in the different countries.
