iOS 10 update for Apple iPhone and other compatible iOS devices is already released and is available as an OTA update to the users. If you haven’t downloaded it yet, you should do that now and take advantage of the features that are newly introduced and Apple doesn’t disappoint with the list of features that you are seeing for the first time in iOS.
One of the useful and good addition to the features in the 3D Touch options that enhance the user experience. Unlike earlier, where you always had to go to the Settings app and then get into particular settings to toggle them on/off, here the Force Touch helps in giving you a quick shortcut for some of the important settings.
What is 3D Touch? It is the technology used in the iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, 7 and 7 Plus, where the touch is pressure sensitive and the different levels of pressing on the button gives a different result. A longer and harder press can be set to show up something different from what a normal touch would have done.

In here, the force touch or 3D touch can be used to show up the quick shortcuts on Settings or Camera app icons on the home screen of iOS 10. Here’s how to do that.
To show up the shortcut options of Settings using 3D touch, hard press the Settings icon on your iPhone (6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus) and then you will see one of the options available – Battery, Mobile Data, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth.
Similarly, to see options for the Camera app, just do a force touch on the Camera app icon and some very good options would show up to make it easier for you even before opening the app itself –
- Take Photo
- Record Slo-mo
- Record Video
- Take Selfie
The advantage here is that usually you would have to open the camera app and then select the front-facing camera but with 3D touch, you can directly open that from the home screen.
So, you don’t have to do anything except take advantage of the 3D Touch feature that is already available in your iPhone. Make sure you have the sensitivity already set by going to the Settings and this is a one-time requirement.
