Xiaomi has just confirmed the release date of the upcoming Redmi 4. It will be the newest member of the company’s highly popular budget smartphone line-up. The Xiaomi Redmi 4 will launch on November 4, 2016. Speculations indicate that the Chinese smartphone-maker may even unveil a cheaper Redmi 4A alongside the forthcoming handset.
The launch event will take place sharp at 7 pm CST (China Standard Time) which is 4:30 pm in IST (Indian Standard Time). Xiaomi officially announced the November 4 event at its Redmi page on Weibo. The company mentioned that the entire event would be live-streamed. Thanks to the countless rumours, we already have some ideas about the configurations of the Redmi 4 and Redmi 4A. The successors to the Xiaomi’s Redmi 3 series shall be a set of well-equipped handsets with exceptional value for money proposition.
The Xiaomi Redmi 4 is expected to sport a full metal unibody construction with the capacitive menu, back and home buttons. Upfront, there will be a 5-inch IPS LCD panel with Full HD 1080p resolution which is an upgrade from the HD 720p displays of its predecessors. Taking a cue from the company’s official teaser image we can confirm that this will be a new generation 2.5D curved screen.
According to rumours, the Snapdragon 625 SoC may be at the helm of the Redmi 4. The octa-core processor houses eight ARM Cortex CPUs in a new generation 14 nm process. Adreno 506 will be the GPU here. Some earlier speculations suggested that the MediaTek P10 may power up this smartphone. This means that we can’t rule the probability of a China-exclusive model with the following chipset. In either way, the Xiaomi Redmi 4 will sport just enough processing power to render the Full HD resolution.
Talking about memory, the upcoming handset will sport 3 GB of LPDDR3 RAM along with 32 GB internal storage. As a member of the Redmi series, the Redmi 4 should also possess a hybrid micro SD card slot. The phone will run Xiaomi’s MIUI probably on top of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow or 7.0 Nougat. The camera department will consist of a 13 MP rear autofocus unit assisted with dual LED flash. The selfie snapper will be a decent 5 MP module. The battery capacity is just the same as the Redmi 3S with a 4100mAh cell.
Coming to the Redmi 4A, it will feature a lower price tag with trimmed down specifications. The Snapdragon 425 is expected to power up the handset along with 2 GB of LPDDR3 RAM. There will be 16 GB on-board storage with the option to slide in a micro SD card. There will be a 13 MP primary camera and 5 MP front-facing selfie unit. The battery capacity will also be cut down to 3030mAh.
The Redmi 4 is presumed to be available in three colour options namely Gold, Silver and Grey. On the other hand, the Redmi 4A will feature only two colour variants that are Rose Gold and Gold. The former will be priced somewhere around 699 Yuan (Rs. 6900 or $100 USD approx.) and the latter even lower. The smartphone duo is expected to be available in China soon after their launch on November 4 and later arrive at global markets like India.
