The Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi had earlier launched the Redmi Note 3 and in the recent spotting a new variant of the Redmi series with a similar metal body has been certified by TENAA in China. The device appears to a younger sibling to the Redmi Note 3 with the absence of Fingerprint sensor on the back.
The device is also slightly thinner than the Redmi Note 3 at 8.5mm in thickness. The processor has been swapped with a Snapdragon 617 SoC from the MediaTek T6795 Heli X10 processor with Cortex-A53 which runs the Redmi 3. From the photos revealed in the TENAA certifications, the latest Redmi 3 appears to be similar to the first generation iPhone from the sides and the back of the device.
The Redmi 3 sports a 5-inch HD IPS display with resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. It is powered by a 1.5 GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 617 processor with Adreno 405 GPU. It is coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal memory expandable up to 32GB using microSD card. The device sports a 13MP or 8MP rear camera with LED flash and a 5MP front-facing camera.
It is powered by a similar 4000mAh battery and runs on Android 5.1 lollipop based MIUI OS. The device supports Dual SIM along with connectivity features like 4G LTE / 3G HSPA+. WiFi.802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. The device measures 139.3×69.6×8.5mm in dimensions and weighs 143 grams.
The Xiaomi Redmi 3 is available in Dark Grey, Silver and Champagne Gold colors which is similar to the colors of the Redmi Note 3 launched recently. With the device expected to be announced in February 2016 which coincides with Chinese New Year and is expected to be priced at 599 yuan which is approximately US$ 92 or Rs. 6125.
