Xiaomi’s Redmi series of smartphones has had a great journey so far, with the Redmi 2 Prime being one of the best budget phones, and now the company has announced the successor to it, the Redmi 3 in China.
A little bigger than its predecessor, the Redmi 3 comes with a 5-inch 720p display and the thickness of the device is 8.5mm. Interestingly, it is a full-metal body this time, and it looks sleek with the patterns on the back of the device.
Internally, the Xiaomi Redmi 3 is powered by the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor and 2GB RAM. While the internal storage is 16GB, Xiaomi has included a hybrid second SIM slot where if the user needs storage expansion, MicroSD card can be used, though that would make this phone a single-SIM one.
The cameras included in the phone are a 13-megapixel rear camera with 0.1-second phase detection autofocus along with a single LED flash, and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. One of the key specs of the device is the 4100 mAh battery included, which should be capable of giving a good usage on a single charge.
The phone supports 4G LTE connectivity, and as we write this, the Xiaomi Redmi 3 is officially announced only in China and there are no details about its release outside the local market. The pricing is set at 699 Yuan (around USD 106), and the phone would be available from January 12th.
Given the specs and the metal body, the pricing of 699 Yuan is a pretty great one, and it would be the MIUI v7 that the phone is running. We’ll be updating with more information as and when we find it.
