VIVO has launched the next flagship smartphone in India, i.e. the Vivo V5. The smartphone that is aimed at the ones who love to take selfies, comes with a 20-megapixel front-facing camera along with a flashlight that helps in a feature called moonlight selfie, giving a perfect light setup for selfies in different light conditions.
On the front, the Vivo V5 comes with a 5.5-inch HD display (1280×720 pixels) with 2.5D curved Gorilla glass, and it is a metallic body with the metal back plate that gives it a unibody design. For the display, there is a global eye protection mode that helps change the color temperature and make it easy for the eyes to view the content in different light conditions. The device is internally powered by the MediaTek (MT6750) octa-core processor clocking at 1.5GHz and along with that is 4GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage.
The Vivo V5 runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow based FunTouch OS 2.6 version that is quite different from the stock Android ROM. There is a fingerprint scanner on the front that also acts as the home button and the company claims that it can unlock the screen in just 0.2 seconds with a single touch, even when the screen is turned off. It is a water resistant sensor, so you won’t have a problem in unlocking the phone with wet hands.
What’s in focus is the camera section. While on the back you get a standard 13MP sensor with a single LED flash, the front has a 20-megapixel selfie shooter that is assisted with a flash light that Vivo calls as the moonlight flash. Vivo says that there is extraordinary clarity and vivid natural colours captured using this flash, and it helps capture a perfect selfie anytime during the day or night. It is the Sony IMX 376 1/2.78 inch sensor with the F/2.0 aperture.
Another feature that the company boasts about is the AK4376 dedicated Hi-Fi audio chip that offers a high quality sound and is capable of delivering signal-to- noise ratio of up to 115dB.
The UI has the Smart Split feature that is useful for multitasking. It can help the user have two app windows on the same screen so that you don’t stop watching a video while replying to your friend’s message. The sensors included in the Vivo V5 are Accelerometer, Ambient Light Sensor, Proximity Sensor, and E-compass.
The phone comes with a 3000 mAh battery and there is support for 4G LTE connectivity with the band support for FDD LTE 1/3/5 and TDD LTE Band 40. There is VoLTE (Voice over LTE) support for the Jio network (or any future VoLTE networks in the future) and it would help with the HD voice and video calls.
The V5 is priced at Rs. 17980 and is available in the Crown Gold and Space Gray color options. The pre-orders are from Nov 15th to 26th, and then the sales will begin.
Vivo V5 Plus: The phone has already been there on the ad boards and promoted at the local stores but the Vivo V5 Plus is said to be coming to the Indian market in January 2016. It is expected to have a Full HD display and a Snapdragon chipset, but take this rumor with a pinch of salt. Though, it is confirmed that it is not a “Max” variant unlike how it was for the predecessor Vivo V3. It is confirmed by Vivo India’s CEO that the Vivo V5 Plus will have a dual front-facing camera.
