After a month’s wait, Vivo has finally brought its Vivo NEX smartphones to India. The NEX comes with a motorized selfie camera that hides inside the body. The phone has a near-bezel-less design, similar to the APEX phone that was showcased at CES this year.
Display
The Vivo NEX sports a 6.59-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1080x2316p. The company calls it’s 19.3:9 display, the Ultra FullView Display, which has a 91.24% screen-to-body ratio.
Processor, RAM & Storage
Powering the NEX is the beefy Snapdragon 845 chipset, while Adreno 630 GPU handles the graphics. It comes with 8 GB of RAM paired with either 128 GB or 256 GB of internal storage. The phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with Funtouch OS 4.0 on top.
Cameras
The Vivo NEX comes with dual rear cameras on the back with a 12 MP primary shooter which uses a Sony IMX363 sensor and has a f/1.8 aperture. The secondary depth sensing shooter uses a 5 MP sensor that hides behind a f/2.4 lens. A Dual-tone LED flash assists both rear cameras.
The main star of the show is the selfie camera that sits on the front or rather hides. The motorized 8 MP selfie shooter rises from the body when you open the camera app. The camera has an aperture of f/2.0.
Miscellaneous
The Vivo NEX packs in a massive 4000 mAh battery underneath the glass sandwich design, which supports 22.5 W fast charging. The phone has support for Dual 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, GLONASS and 802.11ac dual-band Wi-Fi with 2×2 MIMO. As for ports, the phone comes with a USB Type-C port for charging and data syncing and 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Audio
Since the phone lacks an earpiece on the front, the phone uses a Screen SoundCasting Technology, which vibrates the screen to produce sound. Although the technology isn’t new and similar to the Piezoelectric Transducer found on the Xiaomi Mi Mix, Vivo does promise for better bass and softer treble. The phone features a CS43199 DAC and SSM6322 Amplifier for an enhanced audio experience.
Jovi
The phone comes with Vivo’s own AI voice assistant called, Jovi. Vivo has taken the Samsung and included a dedicated Jovi button on the left. The Jovi assistant takes voice commands to launch apps and also identify images.
Gaming Mode
Vivo has partnered with Tencent, NetEase, and Unreal for game optimization. The company has introduced their latest Game Mode 4.0 in the NEX S.
Pricing and Availability of Vivo NEX
The Vivo NEX comes in Star Diamond Black and Ruby Red colors. The pricing of the phone starts at INR 44,990 for the base variant.
