There has been a lot of talk about the modular smartphones concept, with one of the major contributors to the hype being created is the Google Ara Project. Keeping the similar concept in mind there is a company called Shift which is getting ready to release a modular smartphone into the market. It is named as Shift5+ and is going to be its flagship smartphone.
The Shift5+ does not seem to be as customizable as the Project Ara by Google. The things which can be changed or replaced in the Shift5+ are the display, battery along with camera and other important components, the complete list of the customizable features will be revealed later. The option of dual OS is available for the user to select between Android Lollipop 5.1 or Windows 10 OS for smartphones. The option should be selected while pre-ordering the smartphone.
While the company is saying that the pre-orders will start from December for €399 or $340 and the fact that the device is said to be shipped in the Q3 of 2016 means it will be a long wait for customers who are planning to pre-order the device now. The battery capacity is expected to be 2500mAh to 3000mAh and whether it is customizable or not is not clear.
The base specs of the device are a 5-inch IPS display with HD resolution and is powered by a Qualcomm processor supported by 2GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage space. It comes with a 13MP rear-facing camera and a 5MP front-facing camera. There is no clarity yet on which components can be replaced and how much extra you need to pay for each component. Earlier we mentioned that the device can run on Windows 10 and Android OS but it is not a Dual Boot OS, the required operating system should be chosen at the time of purchase and cannot be changed later on.
If you are willing to put your money into something which will be coming out in third quarter of 2016, then goa nd pre-order the device which will start from December. The retail pricing of the device at the launch of the device is expected to be bumped up to €444.
