The Samsung Galaxy J7 plus is a mid-range device from Samsung which was recently announced in Thailand and is now official, this is the second device from the Galaxy Range to have a dual camera setup on the rear, this device also comes with Bixby digital assistant making it one of the only devices in this price segment to have it.
Samsung Galaxy J7 series was the budget offering of Samsung and already had devices like the Galaxy J7 and the J7 pro in series, this device comes in all metal aluminum unibody design making the device look very premium. Not just the looks, the device is impressive even in the specification that it comes with. The Samsung Galaxy J7 Plus comes with a 5.5-inch FullHD Super AMOLED Display from Samsung and has 4GB RAM with 32GB internal memory which can further be expanded to up to 256 GB using a microSD slot. There’s not much mention about the processor that the device comes with but the GSMArena page suggests that the device comes with a MediaTek Helio P20 instead of using their in-house Exynos 7870 chipset.
The dual rear camera setup on the Galaxy J7 Plus is a combination of a 13MP sensor having a f/1.7 aperture and another secondary 5MP sensor with an aperture of f/1.9. The secondary sensor is mainly used to capture depth information, the depth of field of the subject in the image is used to add the software bokeh effect into the image. The recently announced Samsung Galaxy Note 8 came with a feature called Live focus and this feature has been carried forward even to the Galaxy J7 plus which lets the device change the depth of field even after the picture has been captured. This feature uses a software effect using the information on the depth of field of the object that has been captured by the secondary lens to create an artificial bokeh effect. The selfie front camera on this device is a very impressive 16MP sensor with a f/1.9 aperture and supports screen flash and selfie focus mode of Samsung.
The Galaxy J7 Plus runs Android 7.1 Nougat which is highly skinned using Samsung’s own TouchWiz UI and supports multi-window mode and popup windows to run up to 5 apps at the same time. This device also supports dual account mode which lets you use two different accounts on the same application and switch between the accounts without having to log in at each account switch. The Galaxy J7 Plus also comes with Secure Folder which lets you secure personal information and keep it private.
The front mounted finger print sensor on this device also acts as a home button like in the case of most other Samsung devices and comes with the Bixby Home app which is Samsung’s rival to Siri and Google Assistant. This smartphone has a 3000mAh battery and is priced at around 12,900 Thai Baht which translates to around 25,000 INR. The Galaxy J7 Plus is available for pre-order in Black, Gold and Pink color variants and we expect the device to be launching in India anytime soon.
