Ringing Bells, the Indian mobile manufacturer has introduced their latest smartphone the Freedom 251 which will commence bookings from 18th February, 6AM onwards and is priced at a phenomenal ₹251 and not ₹500 as thought yesterday. It might be the introductory price or a pre-booking price and might be sold at ₹500 later on which is not confirmed. The company has even launched the cheapest 4G smartphone, the Ringing Bell Smart 101 which is priced at Rs. 2,999.
The Freedom 251 surprisingly comes with amazing specifications for the price point. It comes with a 4-inch qHD IPS display with resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. It is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB ROM or internal memory which can be expanded further up to 32GB using microSD card.

The device sports a 3.2MP rear camera with Auto Focus and a 0.3MP front facing camera. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS and connectivity features like 3G HSPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth along with GPS. It is powered by a 1450mAh battery, a decent battery for a 4-inch display.
The device comes with some pre-installed apps like Women safety, Swachh Bharat, Fisherman, Farmer, Medical, Google Play, Whatsapp, Facebook, Youtube etc. Ringing Bells has mentioned that they have more than 650 service centers across India. Smartphones with similar specifications are being sold at more than 5 to 10 times the price it is being offered in making it a great deal for every user.
The bookings for Freedom 251 by Ringing Bells will be starting from 18th February – 6Am onwards and booking ends on Feb 21st 2016 at 8pm, the device is said to be delivered by 30th June 2016. It comes with 1-year manufacturer warranty as well. For the price point the device seems to be a great deal and aimed at giving every person rich or poor access to a smartphone and the presence of apps like Fisherman, Farmer etc show the true purpose of the Freedom 251 smartphone being launched at such a low price point.
To meet the demand the company says that they have set up two pilot plants in Noida and Uttarakhand which are said to have a capacity of 5 lakh phones. The company says that they are looking at an investment of Rs 230-250 crores on these plants. Ashok Chadha, Ringing Bells President said “By going for Made in India components, we can save on the 13.8 percent, also we will be selling online first and thus save the costs incurred on large distribution networks,” he added that the company is aiming to capture nearly 30 percent of the smartphone market by the end of the year.
