PepsiCo. which is into making carbonated soft drinks is going to launch its own smartphone, according to an image spotted on a verified Weibo account called Pepsi Phone the smartphone will be launched in China. To confirm the update there is some confirmatory news about the smartphone and it has even got a name “Pepsi P1”. The device is all set to be launched on October 20th in Beijing.
There are some specifications leaked which suggest the device to be a decent device with some mid-range specifications. The Pepsi P1 is said to sport a 5.5-inch Full HD display with resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. It is powered by a true octa-core 1.7GHz MediaTek MT6592 SoC with ARM Mali-450 MP4 GPU. It is supported by 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage.
One thing which is fishy is the inclusion of Android 5.1 Lollipop on the Mediatek MT6592 chipset which has not been seen in other smartphone running on the same chipset. The Pepsi P1 is said to sport a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front facing shooter. It is siad to come with a 3000 mAh battery. The OS will be tweaked with the pepsi branding all over and the soft drink company might not be getting into the manufacturing part of the business but will be outsourcing the manufacturing to other company and licensing the logo and name.
Looking at the leaked image, there seems to be only one Pepsi Logo on the back of the device without much external graphics. The presence of a fingerprint scanner is not confirmed but the images show something below the camera and LED flash which surely seems like one. The pricing is expected to be around $205 when converted to US dollars. The availability in other regions apart from China is questionalble, we have to wait for the official confirmation of Pepsi regarding the P1 Android smartphone.
