OnePlus had kept silent about its plans for the next flagship smartphone but finally, there is a teaser from the company that at least throws some light on the name of the device. As was rumored, OnePlus is going to name the upcoming phone as OnePlus 5 and not OnePlus 4, though the reason for that is different from what was being circulated around, but that is expected as the company cannot mention that they consider the number four unlucky.
The company has denied the superstition and says that it rather takes inspiration from Ex-NBA star Robert Horry for the number.
The OnePlus 5 will be the successor to the OnePlus 3 and 3T. The name OnePlus 5 has been inspired by former NBA player Robert Horry, who has a huge fan-following among OnePlus staff members. OnePlus’s Shenzhen office sports two Robert Horry’s paintings and his number five jersey inspired the smartphone’s name.
That is it from OnePlus. What follows it is a series of leaks that talk about the processor, the RAM and other inclusions. The first thing is the 8GB RAM, which should make it the first phone to have that much amount of RAM if it really is going to have it. Other than that, the OnePlus 5 is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and the storage will be 128GB.
The phone is awaited with a lot of expectations as most of the other companies have launched their flagship devices for the year and it is OnePlus that comes up with something that has a price tag many can afford. The OnePlus 5 was also leaked with a dual-lens rear camera setup and even though once it was said to be wrong, the leaks that followed again pointed at the same combination of cameras and it seems OnePlus is following the trend to bring out better photos and camera features that brands like Huawei have offered.
It might not hurt if the display is still kept at 1080p resolution but there are some rumors saying that the company is finally deciding to bump up the resolution and offer a 2K display. Since the company has said that the phone will be launched during Summer, we need to wait for some more time before getting our hand on one of the most anticipated phones of the year.
