HMD global, a Nokia brand licensee, has announced the launch of their new smartphones, Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco Edition, today in an event in New Delhi. The phones are said to be a part of Android One program by Google which promises faster updates for up to 3 years. Nokia says that the three phones are coming with the Face Unlock feature.
Nokia 6 (2018)
The new Nokia 6 from HMD Global sports a 5.5 inch full HD IPS LCD display with a 1080x1920pixels resolution. The display has 16:9 aspect ratio and is covered under Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The phone is powered by the Octa-core Snapdragon 630 chipset, clocking at 2.2 GHz and an Adreno 508 GPU. The phone comes with either 3 GB/ 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB/ 64 GB of storage, respectively. The storage can be expanded to up to 256 GB via a microSD card, which uses up the second SIM slot. The phone runs on stock Android 8.0 Oreo with a promise for faster updates.
The Nokia 6 (2018) has the same 16 MP sensor with an F/2.0 lens and a 1.0um pixel size. For the selfies, the phone has got you covered with its 8 MP F/2.2 camera with 1.12um pixel size. The cameras are similar to last year’s Nokia 6 and the rear camera has a Carl Zeiss lens with a dual-tone dual-LED flash.
The Nokia 6 (2018) comes with a 3000 mAh battery that supports fast charging through the USB Type-C. The phone is carved out of a single block 6000 series aluminum on the back. The phone supports Bluetooth 5.0 and has a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The new Nokia 6 supports Nokia’s OZO audio with the in-built 2 microphones.
Nokia 7+
Nokia 7 Plus is the company’s first ever smartphone with the trendy 18:9 aspect ratio. The phone comes with a 6.0 inch Full HD+ IPS LCD screen with a 1080×2160 pixels resolution. The chipset underneath is the Snapdragon 660 that comes with Qualcomm’s custom Kryo cores clocked at 2.2 GHz, which is paired with the Adreno 512 GPU. The phone comes with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 256 GB using a microSD card. The phone runs on Android 8.0 Oreo with a promise for faster updates.
The Nokia 7 plus features a dual camera setup on the back, with a 12 MP primary camera with f/1.75 lens on the top and a pixel size of 1.4um. The secondary 12 MP camera is a Telephoto camera with an f/2.6 aperture and 1.0um pixel size. To the front, there’s a 16 MP selfie shooter with a f2.0 lens and a1.0um pixel size. Both the cameras come with Zeiss optics, while only the rear camera can shoot 2160p videos. The phone’s rear cameras do not feature OIS but it does have 2x optical zoom and a dual-tone dual-LED flash.
The Nokia 7 Plus houses a massive 3800 mAh which supports 18 W fast charging through the USB Type-C 1.0 port. The phone has a 3.5mm headphone jack and also supports Nokia OZO audio recording through the in-built 3 microphones. The phone is etched out of a solid block of 6000 series aluminum and is painted over with 6-layers of ceramic feel paint.
Nokia 8 Sirocco
The Nokia 8 Sirocco Edition is Nokia’s flagship phone for 2018. The phone features a 5.5 inch P-OLED curved display with a resolution of 1440x2560p resolution. The phone although has edge to edge curvy display, it still sports a yesteryear’s 16:9 aspect ratio, which is covered under the Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The phone is powered by last year’s Snapdragon 835 chipset with Adreno 540 GPU, which although is a powerful chipset, it just doesn’t come close to Snapdragon 845’s raw power. The phone comes with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage with an option to expand up to 256 GB via a microSD card, which uses up the secondary SIM slot. The phone runs on stock android 8.0 Oreo with a promise for faster updates.
The cameras on the back are similar to that on the Nokia 7 Plus, featuring a dual 12 MP cameras of which the primary camera has F/1.7 aperture and 1.4um pixel size and comes with OIS, while the secondary camera is a Telephoto shooter with an F/2.6 lens on top and 1.0 um pixel size.
The 5 MP F/2.0 selfie camera on the Nokia 8 Sirocco Edition is certainly a downgrade over last year’s Nokia 8 which featured a 13 MP camera which could also shoot 4k 2160p videos through the front-facing camera, while 8 Sirocco can only shoot up to 1080p through the front camera. The rear cameras feature Carl Zeiss optics with upto 2x optical zoom using the telephoto shooter and a dual-tone dual-LED flash.
The phone has a 3260 mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0 support. The phone also supports Qi charging this year, thanks to glass-metal-glass sandwich design. The metal frame on the side is made up of stainless steel with a Gorilla Glass 5 on the back as well. The phone sacrifices its 3.5mm headphone jack for a thin design supposedly, but does support 24-bit audio playback through the supplied USB C to 3.5mm headphone jack.The phone comes with IP67 Water-and-Dust resitance certification for up to 1.5m.
Prices of new Nokia phones
The Nokia 6 (2018) comes in Black (Copper accents), White (Iron accents) & a Blue (Gold accents) colors, while the Nokia 7 Plus comes in Black/copper & White/Iron and the Nokia 8 Sirocco comes only in Black color. The Nokia 6 (2018) is priced at Rs. 16999; the Nokia 7 Plus is priced at Rs. 25999 and finally, the flagship Nokia 8 Sirocco edition would set you back at Rs. 49999.
The pre-booking of the Nokia 8 Sirocco and Nokia 7+ start from April 20th and the sale starts from 30th April, while the Nokia 6 2018 goes on sale from April 6th.
I think price is high for all the 3 phones, they should have 5000 less from these pricing! I wish I could afford for the Nokia6 or the 7Plus!
