Micromax has launched yet another budget smartphone, the Canvas Spark 2, which runs Android 5.1 Lollipop and a 5-inch display at just Rs. 3,999. With the competition in the budget segment growing by the day, Micromax is looking to keep its position intact in this segment and launched this device with a price too competitive.
The Canvas Spark 2 runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and the device sports a 5-inch FWVGA display with a resolution of 854×480 pixels. It is powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor with unknown RAM and 4GB of internal storage space which can be expanded using microSD card.
The Canvas Spark 2 sports a 5MP rear camera with LED flash and 2MP front facing camera. The earlier model, Canvas Spark which was launched earlier this year in April had a 4.7-inch qHD display and 8MP rear camera.
Talking about the launch, Vineet Taneja, CEO, Micromax said:
The Canvas Spark proved to be a huge success for Micromax, selling over half a million units in less than two months of its launch. With the Canvas Spark 2, we are yet again reaffirming our commitment to massify the smartphone and Internet usage in the country. Currently, smartphone penetration stands at 12% in the country and 3G adoption is also barely 10%, which presents a huge opportunity to upgrade. We believe that the e-commerce channel is also expanding and the 3-4K category will be the next frontier. Micromax with its strong brand presence and great product offering focused on democratizing technology, has historically cemented itself as the most preferred brand for the mass smartphone segment. With this launch, we are looking at adding a further impetus to this and drive the overall entry into smartphone category.
The Canvas Spark 2 comes with apps like First touch language solution, Kindle, Scandid, Hotstar, Clean Master, SwiftKey, Snapdeal, Scandid and many other apps which are pre-installed. With the 4G enabled smartphones being sold below Rs. 5,000 Micromax is calling this smartphone the most affordable 3G enabled 5-inch display smartphone running on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop in the market.
