Lenovo’s Vibe S series is what is known more for selfies and a great build quality. The Vibe S1 was launched in 2015 with two front-facing cameras, one with a good 8MP sensor and the secondary 2MP sensor was for depth-sensing, so as to set the defocus on the background. At CES 2016 event, Lenovo has unveiled a new smartphone, the Lenovo Vibe S1 Lite.
As the name suggests, the Vibe S1 Lite comes with some compromises on the camera and processor front. While there is still a good 1080p display that the Vibe S1 packs, the processor included in the phone is Mediatek octa-core chipset (clocking at 1.3 GHz) instead of the MT6753. Even the RAM is reduced at 2GB from 3GB on the S1.
On the back is a 13-megapixel ISOCELL camera that is assisted by a Dual-tone flash and Phase detection autofocus, while, on the front, it is an 8-megapixel Sony sensor camera along with an LED flash. The storage is limited to 16GB, though the MicroSD card slot allows card expansion by 32GB.
One good change is the battery capacity getting a bump from 2420 mAh to 2700 mAh. On the software side, you get Android 5.1 Lollipop and there is Lenovo’s Vibe UI layered over it, with some gestures included a “V” draw on turned-off screen to activate camera app.
Although announced at the CES 2015 event, the phone probably might not enter the U.S. market and will show its presence in the Asian markets anytime soon. The pricing is set at $199 though, and what is included for the price, seems quite decent.
