Alongside the Pixel smartphones and the Pixel Slate, Google has also announced their new Android-powered smart display called the Google Home Hub, today. The Home Hub from Google is similar to the Lenovo Smart display, although the former lacks a camera for video calls, unlike the latter.
Google Home Hub
The Google Home Hub comes with a 7-inch display which can be used to view content from youtube as well as view your photos from Google Photos. The Hub comes with “Ambient EQ”, which uses a dedicated sensor and their imaging algorithms, to tune the brightness and color of the display according to the surrounding light.
With Google Assistant built-in, users can ask the Home Hub to show web search results, weather forecasts, traffic updates, as well play songs, by saying the phrase “OK Google” followed by the action you want it to perform. Also, the Google Assistant uses voice match to figure out who is speaking to it and provide personalized answers accordingly. There are filters to keep out explicit content from being shown on the Hub. While the Downtime mode mutes the Hub, allowing users to focus on their work.
As it is similar to the other Home devices, users will be able to control their Smart Home Appliances such as lights, cameras, and TV, from the dashboard. The Home View shows the state of your smart home devices on the dashboard at a single glance. The YouTube experience on the Home Hub is optimized to show more How-To videos, as well as cooking recipes, to help you in the household works and cooking.
Thanks to the Deep integration with Google Photos, the Home Hub starts displaying your photos from your Google Photos, when not in use. It uses machine learning to only show photos of you and your family while eliminating random images. It also displays only the perfect shots, so your blurred shots won’t make it to the screen.
Pricing and Availability of Google Home Hub
The Google Home Hub is available for pre-order on Google Store, for USD 149, today. The Hub will go on sale at retail outlets in Australia, UK & US starting from October 22, 2018.
