Alongside the Snapdragon 400-series chipsets, Qualcomm has also launched their latest 600-series processor, Snapdragon 632 chipset, today. The new processor uses Qualcomm’s custom Kryo cores that are designed to deliver up to 40% higher performance compared to its predecessor. The platforms are engineered to bring higher performance, better battery life, more efficient designs, impressive graphics and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities into the highest-selling Snapdragon tiers.
The Snapdragon 632 comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X9 LTE modem with peak download, and upload speeds up to 300 Mbps and 150 Mbps, respectively. For faster cellular speeds, the X9 LTE modem on the 632 has support for LTE Advanced technologies like carrier aggregation. The SOC has support for Dual SIM Dual-VoLTE (DSDV), allowing users to connect to two VoLTE networks simultaneously.
Although both SD632 and SD626 SOCs are built on the same 14 nm FinFET manufacturing process, the Kyro cores on the former are claimed to outperform the Cortex cores found on the latter. Despite the lower clock speed, the Kyro 250 CPU cores & the Adreno 506 GPU together offer up to 40% boost in performance when compared with the Snapdragon 626 processor. The Octa-core chipset can support displays up to a maximum resolution of FHD+.
The new chipset from Qualcomm can benefit from either a single 24 MP camera or two 13 MP cameras each. The SOC allows users to capture videos at 4K Ultra HD resolution at 30 fps and also has support for 4K Ultra HD videos playback. It also offers features such as zero shutter lag, real-time bokeh, hybrid autofocus and optical zoom.
“The introduction of Snapdragon 632, 439 and 429 builds off Qualcomm Technologies’ highest-selling mobile platforms and provides users with increased performance and power efficiency, superior graphics, AI capabilities, and enhanced connectivity features. We’re excited to offer these new platforms with enhanced features to our OEMs and consumers,”
said Kedar Kondap, vice president, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.
