Xiaomi India has officially launched the successor to the Mi Max, the Mi Max 2 in the Indian market and this enters the segment where it doesn’t face a lot of competition thanks to the large screen size and even if there was, the device has enough to call itself a worthy one. The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 has the same screen size as its predecessor, i.e. 6.44-inch.
The design has changed quite a bit and now, it is quite similar to the one on the Xiaomi Mi 6 where the antenna bands are pushed towards the top and bottom while the device has a unibody design with rounded edges and the way it is built, Xiaomi claims that this will be a scratch resistant design. The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 has the same 1080p resolution display under the 6.44-inch screen and there is a 2.5D glass for a better look. Internally, the phablet is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor along with Adreno 506 GPU, 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage.
For the captures, the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 has a 12-megapixel rear camera with the Sony IMX 386 sensor, F/2.2 aperture and Dual LED flash support. The rear camera is able to capture 4K videos at 30 fps. On the front is a 5-megapixel camera for selfies.
While the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 runs MIUI 8 interface, this is based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and the further update to MIUI 9 in future will bring in a split screen mode. There is a fingerprint sensor placed on the rear of the Mi Max 2 and for the audio, Xiaomi has now included two stereo speakers, one on the bottom of the device and the other along the earpiece.
The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 has a 5300 mAh battery, which is a higher capacity when compared to the 4800 mAh battery on the Mi Max, and this has the reverse charging support if you want to charge any other device around. Also, the phone has USB Type-C connectivity and the support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology helps in getting about 68% of the charge from zero in about 60 minutes. The 5300 mAh battery is said to be offering 18 hours of video playback, 10 days of music playback, or gaming of 9 hours continuously, or for calling, 57 hours is possible on a single charge.
The device has Dual SIM support, though, the second slot can support either a SIM or a MicroSD card. There is support for 4G LTE with VoLTE, Dual band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC. The Mi Max 2 weighs 211 grams and the dimensions are 174.1 x 88.8 x 7.6 mm.
The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 is priced at Rs. 16999. For the Mi Fans that the company calls it, Xiaomi has partnered with Reliance Jio to offer free data of up to 100GB if you are buying the Mi Max 2. It would be 10GB per recharge for the 10 recharges of Rs. 309 or more.
