In one week, two apps rock the Internet, climbing into the top lists in no time. Both of them are unrelated to each other but are so good at what they do. While Pokemon Go is making people run into random places to find the characters and collect them, Prisma is converting pictures into an art – much better than what the current quick picture editors for smartphones have been doing.
Now, if you are wondering what the fuss is all about, here are a few things to know about the Prisma App, which was available only for iOS until yesterday.
It isn’t an overhyped app, it works as advertised
Overhyped, we would use this word only when there is so much talk but less of work done by the app. But here, Prisma intelligently applies the artworks and change the way your picture looks like. Read our Prisma app review to find out more about it.
App for Android was finally here, in Beta, for a day
After the app being available for only the iOS devices for weeks, there is a Beta version finally available for Android users. There will be some bugs encountered, and “over capacity” errors too will be shown thanks to the number of excited users online at the same time, but it still is worth a try.
Update: Within a span of 24 hours, the beta program is stopped and that might be because the Prisma team felt enough with the experimentation done and thus, stopped applying artworks on the pictures, and set out a standard message saying you will have to wait for the public release.
Not all the pictures will have the same artworks available
You liked one particular artwork and feel like using it for every picture you captured. That won’t be possible here because though I haven’t got an idea why, but the list of artworks available for every picture is different. So, don’t expect it to be the same all the time.
Downtimes are common, and failures as well
Downtime here refers to the failure to apply an artwork on the picture and that is because of the excessive load put on the server at the same time by several users. Also, for Android, this was even more common because the Beta version was just released, and only after a few days, there will be some stability when the public release is done.
Having said that, we’ve seen a few users of Android app complaining about the app not working properly on their device. Even that was a common thing, and something expected for a Beta version, from where the developers would learn and fix things before going with the public release.
You can get rid of the watermark
Remember the Dubsmash videos? Every video there has a watermark, and why not, it is a unique idea and the app developer would love to take credit. But for Prisma, even though you would see the Watermark placed by default, the generous developers have given the option in the Settings to remove the watermark and once you toggle that, it would be just the pictures without any watermark that you see.
Want to save the edited pics for future use? You can do that
Once a picture is taken, you might want to apply different artworks and see which one seems the best. But voila, there are a few that look great and not worth comparing but saving so that you can share them later. Thanks to the option in the Settings, you can set the artworks to save automatically whenever one is applied.
You cannot use the app without Internet
The connectivity is mandatory in case you want to use the app and apply the artworks on your pictures. This is because the artwork is applied on the web and not locally, and that is the reason for the app to take a few seconds before showing you the final result. So, if you are trying to use the app without Internet connectivity, expect it to not work at all.
Prisma Android app might arrive by July end
Take this word “might” seriously, because there is no official confirmation about it but while giving an interview to TheNextWeb, the guys from Prisma said that they are working to bring out the public release of Android app by the end of this month.
