Sony has launched their latest flagship smartphone, the Sony Xperia XZ3, today, at IFA 2018, in Berlin. The phone comes months after the launch of Xperia XZ2, at the MWC 2018. The XZ3 retains few key features from the XZ2, while it switches others for a slightly improved unit.
The phone uses AI to power the Side Sense function, which intelligently predicts frequently used applications and makes it easier to reach. The Side Sense function can be triggered by double tapping on either side of the display.

Display
The Sony Xperia XZ3 sports a 6-inch Quad HD+ curved OLED display with a resolution of 2880×1440 pixels. The Triluminous HDR screen uses Sony’s X-Reality Engine. The screen is protected under a Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
Chipset & OS
Powering the smartphone is the Beefy flagship SOC from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 845 chipset with Adreno 630 GPU. It comes with 4 GB and 64 GB of internal storage. The phone also offers storage expansion via the microSD card slot. The XZ3 runs on Android 9.0 Pie, out of the box.
Cameras
For the cameras, the Sony Xperia XZ3 comes with a 19 MP rear-facing cameras, which uses a 1/2.3″ Sony Exmor RS sensor that sits behind a f/2.0 aperture. The rear-facing camera can capture HDR videos at a maximum resolution of 4K. The 960 fps super slow-motion videos at 1080p resolution, is carried forward from its predecessor. The rear cameras also offer predictive capture alongside the 5-axis image stabilization.
While on the front, there’s a 13 MP 1/3.09″ Sony Exmor RS snapper attached to a f/2.0 22mm wide-angle lens.

The battery underneath is a 3300 mAh unit, which supports Quick Charge 3.0, as well as Qi Wireless Charging. For connectivity, the phone comes with 4G VoLTE, 802.11ac Dual-Band Wi-Fi with 2×2 MU-MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS, GLONASS.
Security & IP Certification
For security, the Sony Xperia XZ3 come with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. The is IP65/IP68 Water and dust resistant certified. The phone weighs 193 gms and is 9.9 mm thick.
Audio & Ports
The Xperia XZ3 only has a USB Type-C port for both charging and audio. For audio, the XZ3 has stereo speakers with S-Force Front Surround sound as well as support for Sony’s DSEE HX, LDAC technologies. Apart from this, the phone has a Dynamic Vibration System that analyzes the audio data from the media such as movies or videos and provides a vibration to make the movie watching experience even more immersive.
Pricing and Availability of Sony Xperia XZ3
The Sony Xperia XZ3 comes in four colors – Black, Bordeaux Red, Forest Green & Silver White. The phone is priced at GBP 700 (USD 910/ INR 64,674) and will be available in select markets, starting this September.
