Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy On8 in India. The upper mid-range smartphone sports 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED display with decent internals and costs Rs.15900. The phone will be exclusively available for purchase from Flipkart during the Big Billion Day Sale starting from October 2, 2016.
On the exterior, the Samsung Galaxy On8 looks premium with a brushed metal finish on a relatively slim body. The handset packs a 5.5-inch Full HD (1080 x 1920) Super AMOLED touchscreen. This makes it one of the best displays in the price segment. There is no word on any screen protection although. The mobile runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with Samsung’s modified user interface.
In the inside, the Galaxy On8 is powered by the Samsung Exynos 7 Octa 7580 chip. The 64-bit Octa-core processor comes with eight Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.6 GHz each. A dual core ARM Mali T720 GPU handles the graphics output. This is a very mid-range configuration and will barely manage to run resource intensive applications in Full HD resolution.
The Samsung Galaxy On8 sports 3 GB of LPDDR3 RAM along with 16 GB of inbuilt storage. The handset supports micro SD cards through a dedicated slot, unlike those fancy hybrid SIM trays. You may also connect your external pen drives through an OTG cable to the On-The-Go enabled Galaxy On8.
There is a 13 MP auto focus rear camera in the brand new smartphone. It supports Full HD video recording at 30 fps and features a single LED flash. The front camera is a decent 5 MP shooter. Interestingly, the Galaxy On8 sports an additional front facing LED flash to lighten up your selfies.
Coming to connectivity, the newly launched dual SIM phone supports 4G LTE along with VoLTE (Voice over LTE). This means it is entirely compatible with Reliance Jio and is eligible for the Jio Welcome Offer. The Galaxy On8 features Cat-6 LTE which means it can support up to 300 Mbps and 50 Mbps download and upload speeds respectively. Other connectivity features include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz only), 3.5 mm audio port, GPS, etc. Samsung has equipped the On8 with a traditional micro USB port instead of the more advanced Type-C USB.
A 3300mAH removable Lithium-ion battery juices up the brand new smartphone. This would offer decent power back-up to the moderately powerful device. The Samsung Galaxy On8 will be sold in three different color variant, which are Black, Gold, and White. The phone will be available from Flipkart for Rs. 15900 beginning from the date of October 2.
