The smartphone market in India has been growing at a pace that some well-known brands have fallen on their knees while some new entrants have already started getting good numbers for the shipments. In such a situation, Bollywood actor Salman Khan has decided to venture into the smartphone business with a brand name BeingSmart.
The actor holds a clothing brand named Being Human, and the new name chosen for the smartphone business is quite similar, with the tag “Smart” attributed to the devices that will be sold. The actor is currently building an operational management team to be headed by a professional with leadership stints at Samsung and Micromax, according to the report on ET.
The BeingSmart Trademark is registered and it is said that a Chinese plant is selected for the manufacturing of these phones, and the phones will cost under Rs. 20000, running Android OS. The phones will be put in a competition against the devices from OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi.
The same executives who put out this news also say that the proceeds from the profit will be ploughed back into charity and social work that Salman Khan does with his Being Human Foundation. Initially, the BeingSmart smartphones will be sold on online platforms and later, there will be strategic partnerships done with a few large cellphone and electronic retail chains for the offline presence.
Another celebrity we know who invested in the smartphone business is Sachin Tendular who invested into Smartron, the IoT firm that has launched a convertible laptop and a smartphone as well.
