Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. has been working hard in making its mark in the field of telecommunications, and with the recent announcement of gaining 100 million subscribers in about 170 days, the company has already given a hard time to the competitors that have started merging or made changes in strategies after the offers and tariffs from Jio seemed too good.
Now, the latest report from FactorDaily claims that Reliance is going to launch a cab service, something on the lines of Uber, which is an app-based taxi service. The company led by Mukesh Ambani is said to have already ordered about 600 cars and that is from Mahindra and Hyundai to begin the service. The concept isn’t going to be entirely like Uber because here, Reliance will own the cars just like how Meru Cabs does.
According to the same report, Reliance Jio Cabs will be first introduced in Chennai and Mumbai, later followed by the other cities and the pricing will be aggressive, comparable to Ola and Uber. Jio is said to have also hired E&Y as the consulting firm to get advise on the pricing part so that the Chairman’s plans to get a good market share are well aligned.
Given how Reliance Jio had been offering its services for free for months now and even after March 31st there are good offers in place, the Jio Cabs service if true would give the users a lot of offers before the company starts a price war in the cab rental space. Also, when it comes to the payment, there might be a full integration and use of the Jio Money service for the payments of the taxi rides.
