Reliance Jio touches 100 million subscribers mark – Mukesh Ambani

One target that Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. and the Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani had sent during the launch of the new network provider “Reliance Jio” was to touch the 100 million subscriber mark. The number is finally achieved, according to the latest note from the chairman. And it took 160 days for the provider to reach the number.

“When we started Jio, we set a target for ourselves that we will acquire 100 million customers in shortest time. Even we didn’t imagine that we would do it in months,” Ambani said at the three-day Nasscom leadership forum in Mumbai. “We just set ourselves a goal. Aadhaar enabled us to acquire a million customer a day which is unheard of in the industry as a whole,” Based on the count, it seems like Jio is adding about 6.2 lakh new subscribers in a day.

Launched first for the RIL employees in December 2015, Jio has been offering its services for free to everyone, and this includes voice and video calls, data usage, SMS, and even the subscription to premium app services. First, it was the Jio Preview Offer, then the Jio Welcome Offer when the company had it available for anyone having a 4G phone, and then the Jio Happy New Year offer where the offer extended to March 31st.

The first 50 million subscribers were gained in the first 83 days, and as of December 31st, it was 72.4 million subscribers that the company had announced. While speaking about it, Mukesh Ambani said that the eKYC activation made it better with ease of activation of the SIM cards.

There have been regular issues already between Jio and the already present incumbent operators, who claim that they have been giving enough Interconnect points for the calls to go through, but Jio has been denying that and says that the number of points allowed is too low, and the latest statement of Airtel about the same was called “misleading and malicious” by Reliance Jio.
