Ever since we’ve been hearing about the Jio network and the network services, one of the questions that most of the users have in mind is whether they can use the Mobile Number Portability option to switch to Jio network on the same phone number that they have on Airtel, Idea, Vodafone, Tata Docomo or any other network.
The good news – Yes, you can port your number to Jio network already even if the commercial plans are not open and you can enjoy everything for free till the end of the year. But, do you really want to shift to the network already? Rather, get a SIM on the Jio Welcome Offer that is currently going on, and only after you feel satisfied with the network coverage and speeds, you should choose to switch to the Jio network.
If you already chose to switch to Jio, here is how to do that with the MNP option.
From your current phone number, send an SMS to 1900, and write the message as PORT (YOUR PHONE NUMBER).. to give an example, send PORT 9876543210 where that number has to be your phone number.
In no time, you’ll receive an SMS from 1901 with a Unique Porting code and the expiry date for the code. It should be something like this.
Dear Customer, your Unique Porting Code is AA111111 and the expiry date is DD-MM-YYYY. Please do not share this code with anyone other than the recipient operator personnel.
Once you get the porting code, you are good to go. Visit a Reliance Digital store or any store where you are getting the Jio SIM card.
Now, it is a similar process to how you get a SIM card from a network provider. The only difference here is that you need to mention about the current phone number and its MNP to Jio from your current network provider as you don’t need a new SIM card in this case.
You still need to Download My Jio app from Play Store and generate offer code so that you can produce to show that you have an eligible 4G smartphone to get the Jio SIM under the Welcome Offer. You will need to submit a copy of Proof of Address, Proof of Identity and a photograph for availing your Jio SIM.
