OPPO’s recently launched smartphone in China, the OPPO R9s is said to be the third most popular smartphone model in the world in the first quarter of 2017, based on the number of shipments. According to the research done by Smartphone Model Tracker (SMT) service (Source: Strategy Analytics), the smartphone is behind Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus with a market share of 2.5%.
It is to note that the smartphone shipment stats are only for the first quarter of 2017 and not the overall stats. According to the research, a total of 8.9 million units of OPPO R9s were shipped and while the two phones from Apple grab the top two spots, the fourth and fifth spots are held by Samsung with its budget and mid-range devices.
Following are the phones and the shipment numbers as well as the percentage of share help by the particular models.
- Apple iPhone 7: 21.5 million shipments (6.1 percent)
- Apple iPhone 7 Plus: 17.4 million shipments (4.9 percent)
- OPPO R9s: 8.9 million shipments (2.5 percent)
- Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016): 6.1 million shipments (1.7 percent)
- Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016): 5.0 million shipments (1.4 percent)

The total shipment count was about 353.3 million units in Q1 2017. In India, Xiaomi and Vivo are inching closer to Samsung in the first quarter of the year.
