OnePlus released a new teaser for their 2018 Flagship Killer, the OnePlus 6. The Chinese manufacturer has already started building the hype around the phone through a 4-second short teaser, which says “speed you need”. It also confirms the this year’s flagship killer will be called OnePlus 6.
Earlier this week, Carl Pei, co-founder of OnePlus, has admitted that the OnePlus 6 will feature a notch on the front. He also explained the reason why the company chose to go with a notch design. He stated it was because they could fit all the required sensors, notification LED, camera and the earpiece in a tiny 19.62 x 7.69 mm area, they’ve decided to go with the notch to save up some screen space, which could instead be used for the status bar. The notch on the upcoming OnePlus 6 is larger than the one on the Essential Phone but is smaller than the iPhone X’s notch. He also stated that the company didn’t want to compromise on front-facing camera’s quality by using a smaller camera.
The OnePlus 6 is said to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset and is said to launch in mid-late June, which was confirmed by Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus. The phone is also said come with a woodgrain finish variant for the back, which does to resemble a phone skin, from image shared by the popular leakster Evan Blass. The photo also gave away other information about the OnePlus 6 as well, including the presence of a 3.5mm headphone jack and also have a type-c port which should support OnePlus’s this year’s dash charge technology.
Additionally, Pete Lau has confirmed that the upcoming flagship is going to feature a 256 GB storage variant with 8 GB of RAM, today in the OnePlus forum. The company posted an image which reads “Our pursuit of burdenless speed.” on the forum. The company’s R&D team has a specialized team called the Team FSE (Fast, Stable, Efficient) whose sole focus is to maximize the power of their flagships and make the user experience better.
