A few months back, Nokia acquired Withings, the smart devices maker from France. Now, a news follows it saying that the name Withings is going to see an end. It will be Nokia as the branding on all the smart products that were made by Withings.
One of the products from Withings, the Activite smartwatch was my favorite for its design. Now, imagine the Withings branding being rubbed off and Nokia taking its place. It should be another dream come true, when a brand you admire now have its name on the product you love. But, when is it going to happen? Later this year, says Nokia.
It was an announcement made by Vice President of Digital Health and former Withings CEO Cédric Hutchings, who said that “Nokia is a powerful global brand that is synonymous with innovation, connectivity and great design,” “Withings joined Nokia because we share a vision to inspire individuals to take control of their own health. With the full power of a brand recognized for trust, reliability and quality, we will reach more people and impact more lives to help the human family be healthier together.”
If the removal of the old branding is for a reason that Withings is a relatively lesser known name than Nokia and the owner now needs to market the products directly to the big fan base, it makes sense. Hutchings also mentioned that the Health Mate app that controls the ecosystem and tracks the activities and stats is going to see a redesign for an improved user experience. It will offer a 360-degree view of health.
Similar to how Apple works on the HealthKit, Nokia will also launch a Patient Care program where the data will be shared between patients and doctors. The current portfolio of Withings has smartwatches, fitness wearables, connected scales, thermometers, and more.
Nokia at MWC 2017 has made a few announcements, with a lineup of Android smartphones that are launched globally, and the relaunch of Nokia 3310 feature phone.
