Meizu has launched their flagship smartphones, the Meizu 16 & the Meizu 16 Plus, today, in China. The phones come as successors to the Meizu 15 and 15 Plus that were launched back April. The phones feature trendy tall displays and a beefy Snapdragon chipset.
Meizu 16 & Meizu 16 Plus
Display
The Meizu 16 and the 16 Plus feature a 6-inch and 6.5-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display. The phones use a Samsung-made display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The phones have a whopping 91.18% screen-to-body ratio, which is achieved through the thin 1.43 mm side bezels and 5.74 mm chin. The screen has a 10000:1 contrast ratio and a brightness of 430 cd/m2 (430 nits).
Chipset & OS
Powering the Meizu 16 and 16 Plus is the flagship Snapdragon 845 chipset. The Adreno 630 GPU handles the graphics thrown at it with ease. The Meizu 16 comes in 6 GB RAM with either 64 GB or 128 GB UFS 2.1 storage variant and an 8 GB of RAM with 128 GB UFS 2.1 internal storage variant. The Meizu 16 Plus, on the other hand, comes in 6 GB RAM with 128 GB UFS 2.1 storage, 8 GB RAM with 128 GB UFS 2.1 and an 8 GB RAM with 256 GB UFS 2.1 storage. Both the phones run on Android 8.1 Oreo with Flyme OS on top.
Cameras
The Meizu phones feature a dual camera setup on the back. The primary 12 MP camera uses a 1/2.3″ Sony IMX380 sensor, with 1.55um pixels that sits behind a f/1.8 lens. The primary shooter offers four-axis stabilization, with Phase Detection AutoFocus & Laser Auto Focus. The secondary unit is a 20 MP telephoto shooter, which has a f/2.6 lens on top of the Sony IMX350 sensor. The Telephoto snapper is used for portrait shots and also offers 3x lossless zoom. A six-LED ring flash assists the cameras in low-lighting situations.
To the front, the Meizu-duo feature a 20 MP selfie shooter that has a f/2.0 aperture, which comes with AI Beauty recognition.
Miscellaneous
Security
Apart from the usual AI Beauty selfies, the front-facing camera can also be used for Face Unlock, using the AI Face Unlock Feature. The phones come with an in-display fingerprint scanner that has a high 99.12% recognition rate.
Battery
The Meizu 16 comes with a 3010 mAh battery, whereas the Meizu 16 Plus packs in a 3640 mAh underneath the 3D ceramic textured glass backs. The battery supports Meizu mCharge technology, which offers fast charging at a maximum wattage of 24W.
Audio & Connectivity
The Meizu-duo come with 4G VoLTE, Dual-Band 802.11ac Wi-Fi with 2×2 MIMO support, Bluetooth 5, GPS+GLONASS. For ports, the phones come with a USB Type-C port for charging & data transfer and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Both the phones come with dual speakers.
Pricing and Availability of Meizu 16 & Meizu 16 Plus
The Meizu 16 & the 16 Plus come in Black and White colors and are available for pre-order in China starting today, The Meizu-duo (16 and 16 Plus) will go on sale on August 16, and 20th, respectively. The pricing of the two phones are as follows:
