Google has been known to name their Android OS versions after sweets or deserts with Android Kitkat, Lollipop and Marshmallow being the recent OS versions. With Android N Developers Preview already out, Google is busy trying to figure out a name for their latest OS.
Google always has internal code-names for their OS before deciding on a name as we have seen earlier with Kitkat – Key Lime Pie (klp), Lollipop – Lemon Meringue Pie (Imp) and Marshmallow – Macadamia Nut Cookie (mnc). Android N has also got an internal Code-name (nyc) which is being called as New York Cheesecake according to Android Police.
Google is conducting a couple of online polls to finalize the name for Android N, one question has given some options and asking you to choose the one you like – Napoleon, Nut brittle, Nachos, Nori, Noodles, Nougat and Neapolitan ice cream, surprisingly there is not Nutella which has been doing rounds as the name for the Android N from quite some time.
The other question was “What tasty food came to mind that starts with the letter “N” asking you to enter the term in the empty field below. These opinion polls were found on the Google Opinion Rewards Android App which lets people answer few questions to win Play Store credits in return. We can only keep guessing what is the name being finalized for Android N and with Google I/O beginning in May we can expect some campaigns as seen for Android Marshmallow to confuse people.
Android N has brought a lot of new features to users like Call Blocking, Doze, Data Saver, Night Mode, Multi Window etc. Android N final release will be handed over to device makers by Summer this year.
