Asus partners with Foxconn for its “Make in India” support

Asus, the Taiwanese multinational electronics company has joined the Make in India campaign, which is attracting many manufacturers from across the globe to set up or partner with other companies to manufacture products in India.

Asus which is also the world’s 5th largest PC manufacturer is joining hands with Foxconn to manufacture the devices from their Zenfone 2 series. Foxconn has recently launched a manufacturing unit at Sri City plant in Andhra Pradesh, here the new devices will be manufactured. Asus is joining many other smartphone makers like Samsung, Sony, LG, Motorola, Xiaomi, Gionee, Lenovo, Lava, Oppo and Phicomm which has already entered the make in India campaign.

Peter Chang, Regional Head – South Asia & Country Manager – System Business Group – ASUS India, said:
“The Indian government’s focus on ‘Make in India’ has opened a plethora of opportunities for international companies. It is an opportune time to make the announcement as it will enable us to bring our cutting-edge products to consumers who are looking for features and design sensibilities of a high-end smartphone at an economic price.”

Asus and Foxconn will be manufacturing 150,000 smartphones every month which makes this plant take care of almost 80% of the total sales in India. The company has announced that the plant will be manufacturing all the devices supplied to India. As for the first device to be coming out of the plant, Zenfone 2 Laser is the device to come out of Sri City facility.

Asus is aiming to take over 5% of the smartphone market in India, with the help of Make in India initiative. the manufacturing cost and the shipping time will be drastically reduced once the Sri City plant gets to full speed. We can expect the manufacturing companies to start selling on their own websites without relying on e-commerce websites. Companies like Samsung with $1 billion investment and LG with Rs. 1000 crore investment are one of the biggest investors in India coming through the Make in India initiative.
