After being available for almost 5 whole months as a beta, Google has finally unveiled the final version of the Android update, today. Alongside that, the company has also announced the name of its latest operating system the Google 9.0 P, which will be called Android 9 Pie.
Android 9 Pie
Over the period of five months, the OS has received multiple updates during its beta stage. The OS has been finely tuned with many UI changes while ironing out the janky parts of it. At the Google I/O, Google had announced that the new operating system is built with Intelligence, Simplicity and Digital Wellbeing as a prime focus.
Android Pie brings a ton of tweaks to the table. While the features that were included are mostly back-end, there were a few UI improvements as well. These include features such as gesture navigation, support for notched phones as well as AI based features such as predictive app actions, adaptive battery & adaptive brightness, etc. There are a few features that won’t make it to the final version yet, such as Digital Wellbeing & Slices, which will be introduced in Fall 2018. The Digital Wellbeing has features such as usage dashboard, app times and “wind down” setting for when you go to bed, which are being introduced in Android P to help users tune down their usage patterns.
Another such feature that didn’t make it to the final version is “Slices.” Slices lets users access certain app functionalities from either search bar or google assistant, without the need to open the app. Through this, users can book their cabs from services like Lyft, through the google search bar. Although the functionality hasn’t been rolled out yet, Google has started allowing app developers to work on Slices to integrate their app elements into the search option.
Avaialbility
As for the availability of Android 9.0 Pie, Google Pixel users would be the first to receive the update, while Essential phone users are also said to receive the update very soon. The list of devices that are expected to get the update first are the Essential, HMD Global (Nokia), OnePlus Oppo, Sony Mobile, Vivo, and Xiaomi.
Great article . AI based features predictive app actions, adaptive battery & adaptive brightness, etc sounds interesting . Slices addition would be more useful .
Now lets see if project treble helps to bring the updates faster..
It’s boring but it’s SWEET though!!
