Right from the beginning of the year, the mid-range category of smartphones was filling up with a good pace. For smartphones priced between Rs. 10000 to Rs. 15000, one might usually want to see great performers with cameras that can take appreciable captures. While it was again a category where the well-known brands except a few exceptions could not make a mark, the Chinese players swept away most of it.
For the ones who want a lower priced device, we have a list of best phones between Rs. 5000 and Rs. 10000 for this year. Here’s what we liked from the long list in this price range.
Motorola Moto G 3rd gen.
What a winner from Motorola this time. The second gen. Moto G was nice but felt a little overpriced since the competition took over, but the Moto G 3rd gen. has a better camera combo, water resistance, and an excellent performance.
Xiaomi Mi 4i
Only if Xiaomi had given a storage expansion slot in the Mi 4i, it’d have topped the list, since the phone is perfect in every other sense. Display, cameras, and the battery are the areas where it excels, but storage limitation does pose as a strong against it for many.
Gionee Marathon M4
No prize for guessing the reason for us to include the Marathon M4 from Gionee in this list. The phone’s battery outperforms every other phone, even in the other price segments. Though we might recommend the other two if you had to look at overall specs, gamers and travelers who’d want to use the phone for hours, the Marathon M4 is a perfect choice.
Asus ZenFone 2 Laser (with 3GB RAM)
The ZenFone 2 Laser in the price range under Rs. 10,000 made its mark quite well, and it is no surprise that the pumped up variant having a better RAM and internal storage will get its place in the list of phones under Rs. 15000 as well. The performance is the same, and multitasking gets just better with 3GB of RAM.
XOLO Black
An unusual inclusion it might seem as we don’t see any top-tier brands having a worthy phone in this range, but XOLO Black did make its mark get a place in the list. The camera combination was quite good, and the display quality was better than several in the lot. All this is added up by the slim and healthy design profile, which was a surprise from XOLO.
Worth a mention
The Samsung Galaxy On series might not have enough to take on the top three, but they can still be a decent choice if you aren’t running behind specs, and are more brand conscious. The other phone that did quite well with a good battery life and camera performance is the Honor 4X.
The Moto G Turbo edition that was just recently launched isn’t much different except for a better display resolution, but we still were quite happy with the Moto G 3rd gen., offering a slightly better battery performance.
The Galaxy J7 from Samsung didn’t make a mark enough to enter the list of top devices, but is still something we might not want to ignore totally, since it packs a good deal, only except for the fact that it gets slightly sluggish with time.
Are you using any other phone in this price range, and you liked it? comment below. Just to be fair, the phones we have listed above are the ones we have used personally, so some exclusions might be seen.
