Microsoft has had an amazing hardware oriented event yesterday in New York, with a great set of products like the Surface Book, Surface Pro 4 along with smartphones like Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, and a new Microsoft Band was also announced. The Microsoft Surface Book is the first Laptop be Microsoft and the company has gone all out to take on Apple Macbook Pro 13″ with fitting the laptop with some amazing specifications.
The Microsoft Surface Book which can be called a laptop-tablet hybrid sports a 13.5-inch PixelSense Display with resolution of 3000×2000 pixels and pixel density of 267 PPI, it comes with 10 point multi-touch to use it as a tablet as well and aspect ratio of 3:2. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4. The touch display also supports the Surface pen which supports the Surface Pro 4 and comes in the box with the device. To help the touchscreen detect between a finger and stylus, Microsoft has used PixelSense technology which is seen in Surface Pro 4 as well.
The Microsoft Surface Book is powered by a 6th Gen Intel Core i5 or i7 processor depending on the variants and comes with Intel HD graphics (non-GPU) for the i5 variant and with NVIDIA GeForce graphics for the i5/i7 variant which is located in the keyboard, you have to keep it attached to get the complete power out of the Surface book. It comes with 8GB and 16GB RAM variants having storage options of 128GB, 256GB and 512GB Solid State Drive (SSD).
The Microsoft Surface is designed cleverly and looks very impressive be it the black bezels surrounding the display or the trackpad which is covered with glass similar to the one seen in Macbook, it supports 5-points touch to help in giving you free functionality. The keypad comes with backlit keys having 1.6mm travel giving you good visibility even in night time with the light dimmed out.
Microsoft claims that the keyboard will be as silent as it can get to let you work without making any sounds. The Hinge connecting the Display to the Keypad is another feature which is unique to the device called multi-element hinge design, it allows you to detach the display and use the device in tablet mode and will turn it into a Laptop when connected.
The Microsoft Surface Book comes with two cameras with an 8.0-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus and capable of recording 1080p HD videos and a 5.0-megapixel front-facing camera. It also comes with Dolby audio having Front-facing stereo speakers and front and rear Dual Microphones. The Microsoft Surface Book is said to have a decent battery which gives up to 12 hours of video playback.
The keyboard comes with two full-size USB 3.0 ports along with a Full-size card reader and surface connect, there is a 3.5mm Headset jack and a Mini Display Port. It supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi wireless networking; IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n compatible, and Bluetooth 4.0 wireless technology.
The Surface Book is available in Silver color with Magnesium Casing and is priced at $1,499 for the 128GB model while the 1TB model costs $2,699 and will be available for pre-order today and start shipping on October 26th. It comes with 1-year limited Warranty and the box comes with Surface Book, Surface Pen, Power supply Quick start guide and a safety and warranty documents.
Now that we’ve seen products from Microsoft for years, there was rarely a time when one would want to flaunt a particular device for its looks, not just its usability. But this, seems like Microsoft has done what Apple has been doing, and is going to succeed with it.
