Microsoft announces the first laptop that the company ever made – the Microsoft Surface Book. Though it comes with an unconventionally looking hinge design, the laptop is seriously power-packed, with a 13.5-inch PixelSense screen, with pixel density of 267ppi. It is said to be a optically bonded display. It is a touch-screen display. The bezels which are black on the device look a bit bulky for a premium laptop, surely we cannot just judge it from photos. The tablet weighs just 0.30 inches or 7.7mm in thickness and along with the keyboard it measures between o.51 to 0,90 inches or 13-22.8mm in thickness. the tablet alone weighs 1.6 pounds and with the keyboard weighs 3.34 lbs.
The Surface Book comes with a multi-element hinge design which keeps the screen in place and makes it easy to remove the display from the keyboard and use it as a clipboard. To keep the laptop feel and the display sleek, Microsoft has included the USB ports in the Keyboard along with the NVIDIA GTX GPU. Microsft has made justice to the Surface name with the detachable screen
The Surface Book comes with the latest Intel Core processor, the Inter Skylane processor with i5 or i7 depending on the model, it comes with dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GPU (absent in the 128GB model) having dedicated high-speed GDDR5 16GB of memory and 8GB or 16GB of RAM. It also comes with a PCI Express-connected Solid State Drive (SSD). Microsoft is calling the Surface Book as the “fastest 13-inch laptop anywhere on the planet” and has compared it with the 13-inch Macbook Pro, claiming it to be “two times faster”. To back the claim Panay played a Gears of War game on the Surface Book on stage and then immediately edit footage from the game in Adobe Premiere on stage which does show the claimed processing speeds.
The Surface Book has a PCIe 3.0 SSD with four variants of 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB storage space. The Surface Book is made for people who are in love with the Surface Pro 4 but are repelled by the fact that it is a tablet. Microsoft’s first laptop comes with a backlit keyboard with 1.6mm key travel which Microsoft claims will type almost silently. It sports a glass trackpad with 5-point multitouch sensitivity. The device comes with 12 hours of battery life on a single charge.
The Surface Book is priced at $1,499 for the 128GB model while the 1TB model costs $2,699 and will be available for pre-order today and start shipping on October 26th. With the specifications and the pricing Microsoft is competing with the manufacturers, it supplies it OS to like Dell, HP, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, HP etc. This laptop will surely up the competition with the manufacturers sporting the Windows 10 OS will start looking at making premium laptops with premium specifications.
