LG has announced that it will be unveiling its upgraded WebOS 3.0 Smart TV platform in its 2016 Smart TV lineup at the CES 2016 in a couple of weeks. The updated webOS 3.0 will be featuring enhanced mobile connection, remote features and expanded connect options according to the company.
The latest update will be built upon its Smart TV platform which will see major upgrades from the 2014 release webOS platform. Commenting on the announcement, Brian Kwon, President and CEO at LG’s Home Entertainment Company, said, “The webOS story of Simple Connection, Simple Switching and Simple Discovery has really connected with customers and illustrates very clearly our commitment to securing a leadership role in the smart TV market with innovation and creativity.”
The main three major features are being called the magic smart features – Magic Zoom, Magic Mobile Connection and an upgraded Magic Remote all of which is said to drastically improve the smart TV user experience. the Magix Zoom as the name suggests lets users to Zoom in or magnify the objects on the display without any degradation in the quality. To help family watch TV together there is an option called Multi-View which lets you see two channels simultaneously, even a channel and Blu-Ray movie together. With the help of Music Player App you can play music through the webOS 3.0 TV Speakers even when the TV is off saving a lot of electricity.
Magic Mobile connection lets users sync or connect any mobile phone to their LG smart TV using the LG TV Plus App and the Mobile Screen can be projected on the TV display. Magic Remote is another feature which is worth a mention, it makes controlling set-top boxes easier with the addition of set-top box “power” and “menu” buttons as well as the ability to control DVR functions. Users can control their home entertainment set up with a single remote thanks to the Universal Remote capability. Even the on-screen remote has been redesigned to make it easier to use and understand for everyone in the family.
To broadcast high quality and free digital content, LG has partnered with Xumo having partnered with broadcasters and publications like Bloomberg Politics, TIME Inc., Conde Nast Entertainment and The Wall Street Journal. To appeal to a larger audience, a variety of premium content such as that of BuzzFeed, PopSugar, and Mode Media, from rising Digital Networks and Multi-Channel Networks (MCNs) is also available on Channel Plus as well as international channel packages.
Another feature introduced in WebOS 3.0 is ‘Channel Plus’ which provides wide range of over-the-top (OTT) content in a user-friendly format. Channel Plus offers a unified channel list that combines OTT content with linear broadcast TV channels, enabling users to watch OTT content by surfing through channels in the same manner they normally would. To get program recommendations via on-screen widgets Channel Plus can also be controlled with an app.
